Project "Brandstatt"

The steep  "Brandstatt" vineyard in Elsarn/Viessling lies approximately 400 meters above sea level and has long been regarded as one of the best sites of the  "Spitzer Graben". With its pure mica slate soils, the vineyard is oriented exactly to the south. In 2005, its former owner, Margarethe Siebenhandl, had the land cleared. Right up to the end, she had cultivated the vineyards by hand. But after the clearing, the old stone terraces fell into neglect, with bushes, trees and wild vines contributing to their dilapidation. In January 2009, I was able to buy the fallow land (0.5 hectare). My (life´s) mission now is to rescue and to re-cultivate this authentic piece of the Wachau. The underbrush already has been removed and now the walls are gradually being repaired. In Spring 2010, the first four terraces were planted with Riesling vines  “like before” - in the traditional  way.
First wine was released in 2015: BRANDSTATT 2013
